Ganpatipule located on Konkan Coast of western India is identified for its beaches and most significantly the centuries-old Swayambhu Ganpati Temple that houses a great orange statue of Lord Ganesha.

As always the choicest dwelling to stay in Ganpatipule was my preferred MTDC Resort that is adjacent to the renowned Temple and has a beach in front of it.

Since, the resort’s two F&B outlets have specified A la Carte menu, I wished to test and taste authentic Maharashtrian Thali. And my search ended when about 3 KMS away on the main Highway, I discovered Swad Restaurant that is owned and run by Amit Mehendale.

Perceptibly, you need to drive a bit to reach this explicit eatery that is undeniably the best in Ganpatipule.

Once you are @ Swad, you love this place as it is very well maintained. The place is neat and clean and tables are very well set up. Here, you may either opt for a traditional set, recommended Thali or you may reduce or add on other items or create your own Thali selecting items which are independently priced in the “Bill of Fare”.

Since you are in Ganpatipule, you need to try Ganpati’s preferred Modak for sure. The best part is that Modaks are available round the year in this specific eatery and they are served with “Shudh Ghee” independently. Split open the Modak you have been served, pour some Ghee (Refined Butter) on it and relish it. The combination of sweet Coconut stuffing that has a touch of cardamom and Ghee does a miracle indubitably.

If by any chance it is Mangoes season, you must select “Amra-Ras” (Mango Pulp) that tastes magnificent. Traditionally, try it in the very start with a few bites of Poli (Chapati) and Amra-ras. And then begin your main Thali.

Strongly recommended is “Solekadhi” too. It is a refreshing Appetizer that can be sipped along with the main course or you may try it with Rice if wished.

My favourite has been simple Aamti. This special Maharashtrian Dal is made with yellow gram Dal and the high spot is the tempering of curry leaves along with chillies, garam masala and mustard seeds.

Next I loved my Varan which is Toor (Arhar) Dal delicately cooked with coconut paste along with spices like mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, ginger and garlic.

Kolhapuri Veg was another show stealer which was an assortment of mixed vegetables made even more tasty and tangy with coconut, whole spices, and yogurt and lemon juice. Simply loved it with my Poli (Chapati)

The neatly-set Maharashtrian thali @ Swad is a feast not just for our taste buds but also for our eyes.

Highly recommended! The place neat and clean with immense taste and enormous flavour. Simple and Authentic! Visit SWAD.
